The Hotel Metropolitan

Your reviewer knows it as the Metropolitan Hotel but it is also known as the Hotel Metropolitan or Hotel Metro. It is a big old hotel at 46 Grote Street and it has been nicely renovated. It is a SALA 2010 venue and a Fringe 2010 venue. There were art works on display on the day that Merkel and Myrtle visited. The hotel provides a range of reasonably priced meals. Unfortunately Merkel's kangaroo salad took forty-five minutes to serve and was tough and too rare when it did turn up.

The food service was a pity because the hot chocolate was excellent. It came in a ceramic cup and saucer with a white and a pink marshmallow. The froth was creamy with an even sprinkle of chocolate powder on top. The chocolate was deliciously rich, dark and tasty. The cost was $3.50.
